Siena and San Gimignano day trip! oh and a photo shoot by Avry and I

Friday April 1, 2011
Follow my eventful spring break week I decided to have a more low key weekend and stay closer to Florence! Now the program that I went through to study abroad offers numerous free included day trips throughout the semester and so far all of the ones I had been on had turned out being wayyy better than I ever expected for being free! So when I heard that there was one of the free trips coming up to Siena and San Gimignano, me and some of my roommates and Avry and some of her roommates all decided to head to the meeting point early Friday morning to see if there was any chance we could just slip on the bus even though we didn't pay a deposit to go! Fortunately for us, we slipped right on with no problem at all! With ease we were on our way to Siena!
Siena was beautiful and filled with the typical Italy churches but by far the most beautiful landscapes I have seen thus far!
(Outside a beautiful church in Siena!)
(Stairs we underestimated!)
(The pit! the town is literally built on hills so this is sunk in in the middle!)

The free trips never cease to amaze me when it comes time for lunch! It was reaching that time of day and all of us were getting testy and hungry until the leaders announced to us that it was time for the wine/cheese/meat/bread tasting! Although the word tasting might sound as if everyone only tries small portions of everything, it is definitely an understatement!
(Avry, Jessy and I at the tasting!)
(Not bad for a free tasting! and thats just the start of it!)
(Enjoying some vino! with ghost white skin ahh!)

After the tasting we piled back on the bus to head to San Gimignano! Now I had not heard much about it but the moment we got off the bus I was in love with that place! It was absolutely gorgeous! San Gimignano is known for being the home to tons of vineyards oh and the worlds best gelato place too!
(The beautiful San Gimignano country side!)

The leaders took us around the small city pointing out important historical details but for some reason the majority of the students traveling with us were more interested in what flavor gelato they were going to get from the claim to fame "Worlds Best" gelato shop!
("gelato champs"....it was awesome gelato!)
