Back to classes

On Monday my roommates and I decided to start the week off early by taking a trip to the central market before classes. We all decided it was time for us to kick out some of the carbs and bring in some more greens.

Following our market trip Inbar and I went on to our Mediterranean Diet cooking class where we would be cooking for the first time. After handing over my 90 Euro lab fee and receiving my apron the cooking began. We were making "Moussaka," which is a type of Greek lasagna. We used things such as eggplant, onions, ground lamb, vermouth and baked potato slices. Our cooking group felt as if we were doing a wonderful job until the final product was completed and our professor went around to all of the groups for the "tasting." For some reason she was not very fond of our final product and was not ashamed to tell us that either. In my opinion I thought it tasted just fine!

Later that evening I went over to Avry's appartment and we had heard about a little happy hour going on at a place called Baco right by the Santa Croce Piazza which conveniently was right by her place. We decided to check it out but when we walked into Baco and the only people in the entire place were the bartender and us, we were determined we had been misinformed. We figured we would just sit down anyways and catch up. I think the bar tender felt bad for us since we were sitting alone in a booth at the place we thought was the happy hour joint so he gave us both drinks on the house!

Tuesday's are always my longer days since I have two classes filling up my short day. Well more like one class at 12pm and one at 6pm so I get a little bit of a break. My first class is Italian, and I must say this is one of my favorite classes! I know I enjoy it because I can really feel myself learning the language, but I think it also helps that I lovee my teacher! He is young and hip and so eager for us to really learn and comprehend the Italian language! He really likes to mix things up and make class interesting.

                                                         (One of my classrooms!)

My class at 6 is Psychological Effects of Cultural Shock. Before I had arrived in Italy everyone kept telling me about culture shock and how it is totally normal to go through the phases. I had briefly read over some of the cultural shock phases but never thought I would be a victim to any of them. In class last night we started off our notes discussing the first phase, "The Honeymoon Phase." At that moment I realized I was already a victim! Everyday I find myself saying things like, "Omg I love this place" or "Europe has the best food in the worldd!" or even things like "Wow I love how there are so many people in this town!" Even though some of those thoughts and comments might change throughout my time here, I am not sure if this feeling of euphoria I get every morning waking up in the beautiful Florence, Italy will ever fade.
